A Life in the Balance (1955)
Anne's Niche: Actress
Character: Maria Ibinia
Cast and Crew
My Too Cents: This movie was ok. I dunno, it wasn't that great
a part or story. Not enough character development, actions seeming to be
unexplained that sort of thing. But it was fun watching it on a projector.
Synopsis:
___Marvin is a psychotic
killer, who murders people he believes are sinners, in this nice little
thriller. He kills a woman in the building where Montalban and his son
Perez live in Mexico City. Circumstantial evidence points towards Montalban,
who is arrested for the crime. But Perez has witnessed the murder and goes
after Marvin to prove his father's innocence. The climax has the boy smashing
police call boxes, leaving a trail for the cops before Marvin finds him out
and captures him. The technical values are good, with the script and
direction taking the story along nicely. The acting is nothing
spectacular, with the strong exception of Perez, who outshines the
adults easily. Bancroft has a supporting role as Montalban's lover.
Filmed in cooperation with the police department of Mexico City,
with a nice use of the locale.
