The Kid from Left Feild (1953)
Anne's Niche: Actress
Character: Marian
Cast and Crew
My Too Cents:
An OK movie about a kid who gets advice from his dad and relays it to the team,
making losers winners. The team thinks the kid is a baseball genius. Anne is
sort of a secretary for the team owner. Like I already said, it's just OK.
Synopsis:
___This cute baseball
story features Dan Dailey as Larry "Pop" Cooper, an ex-big leaguer reduced
to hawking peanuts in the stands while his nine-year-old son, Christy (Billy
Chapin), acts as the team's bat boy. With the club mired in a slump, Pop
gives Christy some tips to pass on to the manager (Lloyd Bridges), and,
when the team starts winning, Whacker (Ray Collins), the owner, promotes
the kid to the manager's position, not knowing Pop is really behind the
resurgence. Although its premise is a little hard to swallow, warm,
believable performances make THE KID FROM LEFT FIELD pleasant fare
indeed. The story was remade in 1979 as a far less charming television
movie with Gary Coleman. Note Fess Parker in a small role, one year before
he donned a coonskin cap and made it big as Walt Disney's Davy Crockett.
