Synopsis:
___Charming, understated story of a love affair between two people who never meet. The "affair" begins in 1949 when Helene Hanff (Anne Bancroft), a struggling New York writer with a love of fine old books, responds to an ad placed by an antiquarian bookshop at 84 Charing Cross Road in London. Her letter is answered by Frank Doel (Anthony Hopkins), who runs the overseas department of the store, beginning a 20-year correspondence between the assertive, sometimes acerbic spinster and the dry, reserved man with two children, a plain wife, and a sparse home.
