___The Writers Guild of America is the sole collective bargaining representative for writers in the motion picture, broadcast, cable, interactive and new media industries. It has numerous affiliation agreements with other U.S. and international writing organizations and is in the forefront of the debates concerning economic and creative rights for writers.

Mel has been nominated for the WGA Award six times and has won two of those six times.
    1969 - Mel had one nomination and one win in this year:
    - Nominated for the WGA Screen Award for Best
    Written American Comedy for The Producers(1968)
    - Won the WGA Screen Award for Best Written
    American Origional Screenplay for The Producers(1968)

    1971 - Mel was nominated for the WGA Screen Award for Best Comedy Adapted from Another Medium for The Twelve Chairs(1970)

    1975 - Mel had one nomination and one win this year:
    - Nominated for the WGA Screen Award for Best
    Comedy Adapted from Another Medium for Young
    Frankenstein(1974). Mel shared this nomination with
    Gene Wilder
    - Won the WGA Screen Award for Best Comedy
    Written Directly for the Screen for Blazing Saddles
    (1974). Mel shared this award with Norman Steinberg,
    Andrew Bergman, Richard Pryor, and Alan Uger.

    1977 - Mel was nominated for the WGA Screen Award for Best Comedy Written Directly for the Screen for Silent Movie(1976). Mel shared this nomination with Ron Clark, Rudy De Lucia, and Barry Levinson.
